I have been fishing with Captain Gregg Weatherby my entire life, out of thousands of trips I don't recall ever being "skunked". Within a mile of the Rhode Island Coast we have caught; Striped Bass, Blue fish, Weakfish, Fluke, Black fish, Black Sea bass, Bonito, False Albacore, Skip Jack Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, and Mahi-Mahi. He is truly a Master of reading the water and finding fish!
Gregg met us before dawn on a beautiful RI summers morning and we set off at a clip to find the spots. He is extremely knowledgable of the coastline and where the fish will be - after 10 minutes of being on board we had picked up 3 huge stripers - my father hadn't previously caught a fish in 5 years of trying! We then moved to another spot where we were told we could possibly see Sea Bass and sure enough we bagged a couple! Then on to the cliffs where below the Breakers my dad hooked a Bonito which absolutely made his vacation! Absolutely would recommend Gregg to anyone, experienced or not as he is an expert angler and wont let you down!
We’ve been clients of Capt. Gregg Weatherby’s since 1995. His knowledge, skill, and zen approach can’t be beat. A day on his boat as an angler is a good as it gets. Whether it’s a lit up pod of striped bass or an angry group of Albies, Gregg will find them and put you in perfect position to be successful.
I've been a close friend of the Weatherby family for years and have fished countless times with Gregg —he has helped me become a more experienced fisherman and a better man. The way he fishes, reads the water, and utilizes the tide, sets him apart from other fishermen I've met. He won't just take you fishing, he will educate you. His positive attitude is contagious and it will leave you feeling inspired and energized. Fishing with Gregg Weatherby is a must if you're able to find the opportunity to do so!

It is always a thrilling ride to fish with Captain Gregg! I have been out on several memorable charters with Captain Gregg. On one occasion, I had my heart set on catching my first hard tail on the fly. We had put in, in Newport and when I told Gregg my hopes, without a second thought he said sit tight and we headed off to the walls. The rising sun and the setting moon were in perfect alignment when we arrived. He told me to stand ready and eased in on a school as soon as we arrived. One cast and I was on and my reel was screaming. My dreams had come through with my first Bonito! This was truly a great day as we continued to chase and catch more of these magnificent fish.
Another great memory came while working schools of bass off the Narragansett shores. We were having a great time landing striper after striper on the fly. This is always a treat even though we were catching schoolies. Captain Greg knew I kind of wanted to take home a meal however. While I was standing up on the bow casting he shouted, “Drop your back cast!” I laid it down as he instructed and it landed right in the mouth of what turned out to be a nice 20 pounder that went home with me. I suppose any guide can put you on fish, however it is a true skill when your guide can scan a school of breaking fish and pick out the monster in the crowd and direct your fly right into his mouth! I mean I have seen many a school of breaking bass, but I have never been able to look at them and pick out the keeper, Captain Greg can do this for you. Don’t wait, do it now! - Scott D
I’ve been fishing with Gregg for over 20 years now, and each day on the water with him is a great new adventure. His understanding of the marine ecosystem, his technical proficiency, and most importantly his infectious enthusiasm and exuberance make him a delight to fish with for novices and experts alike. He was one of the pioneers of saltwater fly-fishing in New England, and I’m delighted that he’s chosen to once again share his knowledge and passion on the water with a new generation of anglers. -Chad Loebs
I have had the good fortune to fish with Gregg for a number of years now from early spring to late fall, and our time on the water are some of my fondest memories. Whether chasing bluefin off of Menemsha or working the boulder fields along the Rhode Island coast for monster bass, Gregg knows how to push the boundaries to find big fish and how to make a day on the water spectacular!
Fishing with Captain Greg will be one of your best decisions if looking for a great day on the water. Whether its fishing boulders, ruins, or bait balls you'll be hard pressed to find a better captain. Greg can magically hold the boat in position in surging water giving you perfect access to catch those big wary fish. Being somewhat of a novice saltwater fly fisherman he taught me plenty and gave me quite a thrill landing some monster blues on the fly. Cant wait to get out there again and spend another day fishing with an absolute professional. - Walter
